About

SCAN’s THV Program in Maverick County is a free and voluntary program that uses specially trained staff to visit the homes of parents and other adult caregivers with children from birth to 24 months of age. Staff deliver an evidence-based curriculum to help strengthen the bond between parents and children and improve child development and health and family functioning. SCAN’s THV Program uses the evidenced-based Play and Learning Strategies (PALS) Infant Curriculum.

Curriculum-Based Education

SCAN’s THV Program uses the evidenced-based Play and Learning Strategies (PALS) Infant Curriculum for parents and other adult caregivers with children from 4 to 20 months of age. The PALS Infant Curriculum has 11 sessions that are provided to caregivers on a weekly basis in their homes. Key topics include:

  • Recognizing and responding appropriately to signals from children
  • Maintaining a child’s focus of attention
  • Stimulating language development and thinking skills
  • Supporting autonomy-seeking in their children
  • Responding to limit-testing behaviors

Screening & Referrals

Staff provide screening and referrals to ensure that participants are provided with access to information and resources in the community to meet their comprehensive needs.

Case Management

Staff uses an assertive case management approach that involves frequent contacts with participants to help reinforce PALS Curriculum lessons and to ensure that participants are able to access need referral sources in the community.
